Downloading Updates
PracticeMaker® has continual changes and updates. We will from
time to time post new modules for you to download from our FTP (file
transfer protocol) web page. The get this this web page open your web
browser and type in the address http://www.medeyedbs.com/user/. This
will bring the web page below.
Most of our software
products have their own folder in which their specific updates are
located. In
this case we want to click on the PM5_files
folder to get the directory below.
Before selecting a file to download, you must make sure where it will download to so you
know exactly where to file this file. In Windows you will be asked
where to save the file. When the dialog below appears click Save and make sure the selection in
read is checked!
After you click Save you will
get the dialog below where you select where to save your file. It the
least it must be placed inside the PracticeMaker5 folder. This goes for
archives as well as README files!
For the Macintosh, you will need to tell either Safari or Firefox where
your download. Select Preferences
from uder the application's name and select where files will be placed
after downloaded!
For text files you need to download you may need to right-click and
select Save Target As... If
you just click on it the document may appear in the current window.
Extracting Downloaded
Software Files
All of our software updates are compressed in the ZIP format and
password protected. If you are a paid technical support client, you
will need to call for a password. This password is required to
decompress the updated file. Here is what is needed to extract our
files.
- For Macintosh
users, Stuffit Expander
is the application of choice. In OSX may need to actually drag-and-drop
the downloaded archive onto the Expander application. Otherwise you may
get an error dialog. You will get a password dialog and if correct the
file decompresses.
- For Windows
users please download
WINZIP from http://www.winzip.com. The built-in Windows system is
poorly designed and the required password dialog most times hides in
the background creating great grief among all users.
In addition to downloading the updated
database, you MUST also download
the file READ_NOW_updating.txt
located in the same directory. This explains exactly how to update your
program. Do NOT assume anything. Please read this document.
